David A. Matthews

It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of David Matthews announces his passing on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from complications of heart disease and diabetes at the age of 55. After several months of exhausting hospital stays, David died peacefully in his sleep at home. Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife Kym; his parents Arnold and Bonnie Matthews; his sister Debbie Matthews; his children Caleb Matthews and Ashley Matthews; his stepchildren Zack Smith and Kylie Taylor; grandchildren Faith, Grace, Greer, Grey and Lily; his bonus grandchildren Bryson, Raelynn, Jax, Hope and Joy; a host of uncles, aunts and cousins; and many dear and wonderful friends.

A lifelong resident of Powder Springs and a graduate of McEachern High School, David worked from the time he was 15 years old in various jobs, finally for the last 14 years as a Line Technician at Sunny Delight Beverage Company. David adored his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He also took pride in seeing his children and stepchildren growing into wonderful adults. David loved college football...especially Tennessee and anybody that played Georgia. He wore his Tennessee hat with a big smile on his face but would also throw on a Georgia Tech or Auburn hat if necessary to appease his stepson and wife. He took great pleasure in fishing at the lake whether he caught anything or not. He could build anything big or small, make beautiful pens, work on cars and in his earlier years he was content riding his motorcycle and feeling the wind in his face. He was a God lovin’, porch sittin’, margarita drinkin’, hangin’ out around the fire pit kinda guy that would do anything in the world for you if he could. His presence in this world will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David Matthews's memory to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
