Berdelle Heckstall

March 18, 1925 — February 18, 2022

On February 18, 2022, an angel escorted Berdelle Gladys Brown Heckstall to her heavenly home.

Berdelle was born on March 18, 1925, to the late Lonnie Brown and Mattie Jones Brown in Orangeburg, SC. She had eight siblings: Theodore, Flossie, Earnestine, Odell, Queen Esther, Annette and Delores.

Berdelle was educated in the public school system in Orangeburg. She continued her education at South Carolina State University and graduated in 1947 with a BA degree in Education. Upon graduation, she pursued a career as a teacher in the New York City Department of Education and the Detroit Public School System.

Berdelle was united in holy matrimony to Charles Heckstall, Sr, (deceased) on September 25, 1954. Out of this union, they had four children, Charlene (Heckstall) Thompson, Beverly Heckstall (deceased), Charles Heckstall, Jr, and Bertina Heckstall. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Allison Fulton, Blake Thompson, Kendahl Heckstall, and Danielle Thompson; and two great grandchildren, Ariyah McDermott and Ayden Price. Berdelle is mourned by her lone surviving sibling, Delores, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.
