Thomas P. Kenny, age 61, of Kennesaw passed away March 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 25, 2016 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, Marietta. Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta GA.
Thomas was born in Washington, DC and moved up and down the East Coast as a child in a military family. Tom graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance. Tom lived in Maryland for over 20 years prior to relocating with his wife to Kennesaw in order to shorten the commute to visit family.
Tom worked as a Systems Analyst in various companies and truly enjoyed solving technical issues with the early computer operating systems. He often joked he was a computer nerd. His health forced him into early retirement in 1998.
He was a man of strong faith and amazing perseverance. Those qualities and the devoted care of his dedicated wife, Carol, kept him alive through the years of a chronic illness.
Tom battled multiple sclerosis patiently, impatiently, but always with dignity, for nearly 30 years. He loved to tell tall tales and engage family and friends in political debate: usually about the state of healthcare in America. His active mind and his sense of humor will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his father, Patrick J. Kenny and is survived by his mother, Catherine M. Kenny and his loving wife of 20 years, Carol H. Kenny. He is also survived by his sister, Karen and husband David Dorrough of Marietta; his brother Kevin and his wife, Trish Kenny of Ashburn, VA. Uncle Tom’s truly funny stories were saved for the enjoyment of the younger crowd who teased with him and loved to laugh with him. The younger crowd included nieces and nephews: Kate, Chas, Charlotte, Casey, Pete, Emily and Molly.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Tom’s memory to: The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, Donation Fund, Atlanta, GA 30327. Further information is available at
