Thomas Rugh Boyer (72), of Austell died April 14, from complications of a stroke. He was born June 20, 1943, in Butler, PA, and graduated from Butler High School. He attended Robert Morris Junior College in Pittsburgh, PA, where in 1962 he was a member of the Ingot Cheerleading squad for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He later graduated with honors from the Atlanta Area Technical School. He spent the majority of his career in the dental industry.
Thom was a member of the Order of DeMolay and a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as an air traffic controller. He was a former member of the National Hot Rod Association and the Peachtree Miata Club. He was the owner of a 1964 ½ Mustang convertible—the first Mustang convertible sold in Pennsylvania. Thom was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in Austell for almost 40 years. He loved dogs and was also a Miata and gun enthusiast.
He was predeceased by his parents William H. Boyer, Sr. and Marjorie Rugh Boyer and his brother William H. Boyer, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Elinor, son Mark T. Boyer (Heather), daughter Michelle Boyer-Pennington (John Pennington), two granddaughters – Jessica Pennington and Briana Pennington, a brother Randall Boyer (Janet), canine family Jack and Petey, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Lutheran Church of the Nativity, followed by a reception. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00-10:45 a.m., prior to the service.
