Robert Hughey

July 23, 1930 — May 11, 2015

Robert N. (Bob) Hughey passed peacefully at Presbyterian Village Retirement Center in Austell, GA on May 11, 2015 after a courageous struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born July 23, 1930 in Kent, OH to Paul J. and Helen M. Hughey. He was married to Jane L. Bradley and they would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary on June 7.

Bob was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School and earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in education at Kent State University. He began his career as a carpenter before joining the Akron City Schools where he served as an industrial arts teacher, guidance counselor and retired in 1990 as the Director of Vocational Education. He and Jane lived in Kent until their retirement when they relocated to Keowee Key in Salem, SC.

Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a dedicated choir member and servant to God as a member of the United Methodist Church of Kent and St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, playing games and golf. He coached all of his sons in youth baseball in Kent and is remembered by many of those he coached for his dedication to sportsmanship. He was proud to have been an Eagle Scout and for his service in the U. S. Marine Corps.

In addition to his wife, Jane, he is survived by his children, Jim (Jackie) of Marietta, GA, Robin Squatrito (Joe) of Colorado Springs, CO, Paul (April) of Hendersonville, TN, David of Munroe Falls, OH and Rick (Nancy) of Ellicott City, MD. He also survived by his sister, Marilyn Hughey Phillis of St. Clairsville, OH and grandchildren Chelsea and Laura Hughey, Stacey and Michael Squatrito, Samantha, Jessalin and Jake Hughey, Tyler and Braeden Powell, and Curtis and George Hughey.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30a.m. on July 24 at the Village Center at Presbyterian Village during a family reunion originally planned to celebrate Bob’s 85th birthday. The family has asked that memorials be made to Habitat for Humanity @ P.O. Box 685, Seneca, SC 29679
