Martha J. Morton

Martha Jane Morton passed away on February 8, 2018, at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, Austell, Georgia, following an illness of several weeks. Martha was born on February 18, 1940, in Gary, Indiana to the late Eugene Rayburn Morton and Verna Ruth (Carden) Morton. She spent most of her childhood in the Fredonia community of Coffee County, Tennessee, and graduated from Central High School in Manchester, Tennessee. After graduating from David Lipscomb College, Martha started her career in Yulee, Florida, where she was a Elementary School teacher. She later moved to the Powder Springs, Georgia area and continued her teacher/librarian career in Douglasville. Martha loved playing cards, crocheting, collecting teddy bears and creating special greeting cards for family and friends. She especially enjoyed traveling with her companion of 30 years, Bill Tuggle. Their favorite vacations were the many cruises they took together. Martha was an active member of Burnt Hickory Church of Christ in Marietta, Georgia. She enjoyed teaching young children there and remembered those youngster's birthdays with a handmade card and a small gift. Special young people in her life were Destiny Ray Benya and J.R. Nettles. Martha is survived by her life's companion, Bill Tuggle of Powder Springs, Georgia. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Kay Morton Jones and her husband James A. Jones; niece, Jennifer Jones Dennison and her husband, John; and nephew, James Scott Jones, his wife Danielle, and their daughter Naomi Cassandra Jones. At Martha's instructions, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, Martha's family requests that you donate to your favorite charity in her memory.
