John R. "Jack" Sanders

John Russell (“Jack”) Sanders (78) passed away on June 17, 2018 following a brief illness.

The Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Paper Mill Ward Building, 95 Holt Road, Marietta, GA 30068. Brother David Stevens, counselor in the Ward Bishopric, will be officiating. Visitation will also be held from 9 AM to 9:45 AM at the Paper Mill Ward Building immediately preceding the service.

Jack was born at Fort Sill Army Hospital, Lawton, Oklahoma, on June 3, 1940. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1958. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Education and went on to pursue a 28-year career as a programmer for IBM.

Jack spent many hours giving back to his community. Prior to retirement, he taught for the Red Cross and the Flying Aggies (a flying club at Oklahoma State University which encourages interest in aviation). Later in life, he became active in “ham” or amateur radio activities, participated actively as a volunteer local troop and district leader for the Boy Scouts of America for many years and was a captain in the Civil Air Patrol. Most recently, he and wife, Jeanne, qualified to participate in CERT, Community Emergency Response Team, in Cobb County. He was also an active member and Elder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which he joined in 2004. At the time of his death, he was serving as a Family History Consultant and Missionary for the Church.

Jack was married three times: Sue for 28 years; Elaine for 8 years; and Jeanne for the last 15 years. Jack is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Beatrice, infant brother Charles, and his second wife Elaine. He is survived by his wife Jeanne; first wife Sue; his sister Ann; his children Peter (Cindy), Patricia, and Paul (Bonnie); his 5 grandchildren Patrick, Matthew, Tabitha, Corbin and Phoebe; his stepchildren Michele Westgate, Alex Rich (Elissa), Cynthia Graboski (Patrick), Nicole LAST-NAME, Amy Figueroa (Ed) and David Rich; and step-grandchildren Tra, Aeon, Sagan and Vivian.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Boy Scout Troop 1776 Scout Lodge Fund ( http://friendsof1776.org/ppdonation.html ). The family wishes to thank the members of the Paper Mill Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the love, support, and services extended to Jack and Jeanne during the difficult time of Jack’s final illness.
