Jean Hannah McGruder

Jean departed this life on October 9, 2017 while residing in Marietta, Georgia. A retired nurse, she was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, born September 25, 1943. Jean was an avid gardener and interior decorator who loved fashion and movies.
She was a great story teller and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graduate of McDonald 35 High School she completed nursing school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Jean married Willie Nelson (deceased). From that union they welcomed one devoted son Reverend Rene’ Harris D.D., (wife Romy Harris), and four beautiful daughters Ronnie Burks-Sims (husband Lewis Sims), Tracy Bennett, Nancy Deveraux (husband Pete) and Darrlynn Turner (husband Carlos).
Jean has twelve grandchildren Rashaan Nelson 33, Brandon Hamilton 29, Euel Bennett III 29, Brittany Jones 27, Benjamin Bennett (deceased), Courtney Jones 25, Moriah Hamilton 24, Sydney Thompson 22, Aaron Harris 22, Bethany Bennett 21, Tyler Turner 13 and Ryan Turner 11. She has four great grandchildren Jeremiah Jefferies 5, Jayden Jefferies 4, Emory Jones 2, and Bailey Jones 9 months.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lionel McGruder, father Joseph Harris, mother Jeanette Williams Harris and her two brothers, Leroy and Joseph Jr. She leaves to celebrate her home going brother Vernon Harris, sisters Georgiana Harris Buckner, Ernestine Harris Gabriel, cousin Yolanda Williams Daniel and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday November 4, 2017 in New Orleans Louisiana. All are welcomed to attend.
