James Carlton Tomlinson

July 21, 1929 — March 22, 2013

The family sadly announces that after a short but courageous battle with cancer, Jim passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the evening of March 22nd, 2013.

He was born in 1929 near Lytham, Lancashire England. His father’s family were farmers; his mother came from Stoke on Trent, the area of England famous for fine pottery. These parents, and growing up during the Depression and during World War 2, gave Jim his great strength of character which we all came to know and love.

After serving in the Royal Air Force he trained as a materials and welding specialist in the aircraft industry. He was hired by Lockheed Marietta in 1967 and retired in 1990. He met his wife, Marjorie in Blackpool where they were married in 1954. When they were still in England, their children Kevin and Linda were born. The family moved to Georgia in 1967 where they have made many good friends.

Jim was known for his dry humour, his attention to detail, his love of stirring a good debate, his kindness, and his love of family, especially his wife Marjorie, who he avidly protected. He will be sadly missed.

Jim is survived by his wife Marjorie, his son Kevin (Melody); grandchildren Sean, Lindsey (Zach) and Lauren; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Anne; nephews Duncan (Michelle) and Scott (Elisa); his dog Jack, as well as many good friends. He was predeceased by his daughter Linda.

A funeral service will be held at McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church, 4075 Macland Rd, Powder Springs, GA 30127, on Tuesday March 26th at 2pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church narthex. A reception will follow in Oak’s Hall.
