Anne Hodgkins Ransom

Anne Hodgkins Ransom, age 90, of Powder Springs died on December 14, 2016. A memorial service will be held 2pm Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Macland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Jones officiating. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1926 to Lawrence James Hodgkins and Bertha Ardis Marr Hodgkins, Anne grew up in Tappan, NY, along the Hudson River, and enjoyed summer time visits to her Maine relatives during her youth. She was a 1946 Home Economics graduate of Cornell University in Ithica, NY and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. In 1948, she married Carter Saunders Ransom, Jr, moved to Miami, FL, and began raising a family of seven children. In 1951, the family settled in Cobb County, where Carter began his career with Lockheed, living in Smyrna, Kennesaw, and Marietta. She loved supporting many local causes including the YWCA, League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, Women’s Christian Temperance Union, Head Start, and the Salvation Army. She also treasured her many close friendships formed through her ladies small group at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta for over 40 years. In 1991, she relocated to the Cloudland community in Menlo, GA where she also volunteered at the Moon Lake Library and Elementary School. She enjoyed traveling during those years and was an active member of Cloudland Presbyterian Church. In 2005, she returned to Cobb County and enjoyed spending time with family and friends including her 47 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew her as “Nannie.”

She is survived by her sister, Ardis Hilbig; four children, Sally Cook (John), Barbara Hays, Carter S. Ransom III (Mariya), and James “Sandy” Ransom (Sonya); twenty two grandchildren, Robin Alward, Benjamin Cook, Wendy Williams, Justin Sluder, David Sluder, Heidi Pogue, Patrick Ransom, Jeremy Ransom, Joanna Ruggles, Jimmy Woodard, Steven Woodard, Tiffany Ransom, Rebecca Ransom-Pike, Heather Hays, Ansley Baker, Dennis Sefiner, Amelia Ransom, Braden Ransom, Bella Ransom, Abigail Ruth, Brooke Ransom, and Amelia Spencer; and twenty five great grandchildren, Robert Alward, Elizabeth Alward, John Alward, Rebecca Alward, Charlie Cook, Josh Williams, Zachary Williams, Kaylie Williams, Atticus Sluder, Era Sluder, Dylan Pogue, Daniel Pogue, Emily Pogue, Luke Ransom, Ian Ransom, Camilla Ransom, Mabel Ransom, Abigail Ransom, Aaron Ransom, Dorothy Ruggles, Orion Ransom-Pike, Westley Ransom-Pike, Cameron Stuart, Aveline Klimowicz, Leighton Baker; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and three children; Janice Sluder, Bruce Ransom, and Laird Ransom.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Macland Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, MT ( www.stlabre.org ) or Campus Outreach Thailand (Chiang Mai) ( www.campusoutreach.org )
